6 Habits for Healthy Skin

Having good habits is important. Good habits endure and can make the difference between a healthy lifestyle and getting the most from life. When it comes to having healthy and beautiful looking skin, there are 7 habits you’ll find are beneficial:

HABIT 1

Start your anti-aging routing when you’re young.

Your skin starts to lose its collagen and elasticity around the early 20’s. This is when the aging process kicks into full gear. You should start your routing before this — ideally in your preteens. This can be simply using moisturizer regularly and eating healthy. You’ll be glad as you grow older and changes to your skin become apparent.

HABIT 2

Get sleep.

Beauty sleep is a real thing. Restful sleep is an essential part of the repair process the body needs to go through in order to maintain health and injury free. This means your skin will use this time to maintain itself as well.

HABIT 3

Healthy diet is key.

Eating right can go a long way in keeping your skin and overall health at its best. Fresh vegetables and fruits help support the immune system and add to the overall well being of the body. Berries, broccoli, kiwi fruit, oranges, papaya, leafy greens and potatoes all help heal the body. They provide the ability for the body to produce collagen that strengthens the capilliaries that supply blood flow and nutrients to the skin. If you’re buying packaged foods, read labels and ingredients and choose products that are low in fats, salt and calories.

HABIT 4

Remove makeup every day.

When you leave your makeup on when you go to sleep at night, you run the risk of clogging your pores and inducing acne. Using wipes as an alternative to washing is not recommended. Not only are they no good for the environment, but they also do not remove all of your makeup. Wash your face using lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Especially after working out — it’s important to cleanse your face of sweat and bacteria. Leaving sweat on your face can cause irritation and dehydration due to the salts in your sweat. Making cleansing a priority will get rid of oily buildup and other impurities.

HABIT 5

Drink enough water.

It’s so obvious that it’s passed off as being cliché. However research has suggested that drinking enough water helps improve the skin’s elasticity. What does this mean? Well when you’re young, your skin snaps back into place when pulled. As you grow older, collagen production starts to slow down, and you’re left with loose, hanging skin. Hydration improves the skins elasticity and plumps the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

HABIT 6

Moisturize your skin. Often.

Last but not least, use a good quality moisturizer. When your skin gets dehydrated, the skin cells begin to shrink and become brittle, which makes them prone to toxins and bacteria. This results in wrinkles, flaking skin, redness, acne and quite possibly infection. Look for a quality moisturizer such as one containing shea butter. After your shower or after you finish washing your face, apply a pearl size drop of moisturizer on your skin and rub it in using circular motions.
